STENOGRAPHER APPLICATION FEE 2025:
4.1 Fee payable: Rs 100/- (Rs one hundred only). 10.2 Women candidates and candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) and Ex-servicemen (ESM) eligible for reservation are exempted from payment of fee. 10.3 Fee can be paid online through BHIM UPI, Net Banking or by using Visa, MasterCard, Maestro, RuPay Debit cards.

7.1 Question paper will be of Objective Type Multiple Choice only. The questions will be set both in English & Hindi.
7.2 There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer in Computer Based Examination. Candidates are, therefore, advised to keep this in mind while answering the questions.
SKILL TEST IN STENOGRAPHER
8.1 The candidates who are shortlisted in the Computer Based Examination will be required to appear in the Skill Test for STENOGRAPHER. The candidates will be given one dictation for 10 minutes in English or Hindi (as opted by the candidates in the online Application Form) at the speed of 100 words per minute (w.p.m.) for the post of STENOGRAPHER Grade ‘C’ and 80 w.p.m. for the post of STENOGRAPHER Grade ‘D’. The matter will have to be transcribed on computer. The transcription time is as follows:

8.2 Candidates who opt to take the STENOGRAPHER Test in Hindi will be required to learn English STENOGRAPHER and vice versa after their appointment, failing which their probation may not be cleared by appointing departments / Organizations. Candidates have to work as English/Hindi STENOGRAPHER as per the functional requirement of the User Office irrespective of the medium of Skill Test of candidate during the examination.
8.3 The Skill Test will be held at the Commission’s Regional Offices or at other Centre(s) as may be decided by the Commission.
8.4 Detailed instructions, if any, regarding Skill Test will be provided by the concerned Regional Offices of the Commission to the candidates called for the Skill Test.

Commission has fixed the category wise cut-off on percentage of error/ mistakes allowed in Skill Test as under:
(i) STENOGRAPHER Grade ‘C’: up to 5% mistakes for UR and up to 7% mistakes for all reserved category candidates.
(ii) STENOGRAPHER Grade ‘D’: up to 7% mistakes for UR and up to 10% mistakes for all reserved category candidates.

Indicative Syllabus FOR SSC STENOGRAPHER
Indicative Syllabus for Computer Based Mode Examination:
9.1 General Intelligence & Reasoning: It would include questions of both verbal and non-verbal type. The test will include questions on analogies, similarities and differences, space visualization, problem solving, analysis, judgment, decision making, visual memory, discriminating observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetical number series, non-verbal series etc. The test will also include questions designed to test the candidate’s abilities to deal with abstract ideas and symbols and their relationship, arithmetical computation and other analytical functions.
9.2 General Awareness: Questions will be designed to test the ability of the candidates‟ general awareness of the environment around him and its application to society. Questions will also be designed to test the knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspects as may be expected of an educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighboring countries especially pertaining to Sports, History, Culture, Geography, Economic scene, General Polity including Indian Constitution, and Scientific Research etc. These questions will be such that they do not require a special study of any discipline.
For VH candidates of 40% and above visual disability, there will be no component of Maps/Graphs/Diagrams/Statistical Data in the General Intelligence & Reasoning/ General Awareness Paper.
9.3 English Language & Comprehension: In addition to the testing of candidates’ understanding of the English Language, its vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms and its correct usage, etc., his/ her writing ability would also be tested

CRUCIAL AGE FOR SSC STENOGRAPHER
The crucial date for age reckoning is fixed as 01.08.2025 in accordance with the provisions of DoP&T OM No. 14017/70/87-Estt.(RR) dated 14-07-1988. The age limits for the posts as per the Recruitment Rules of various User Departments are:
11.1 STENOGRAPHER Grade ‘C’: 18 to 30 years as on 01.08.2025, i.e., candidates born not before 02.08.1995 and not later than 01.08.2007 are eligible to apply.
